Top Halloween Events in Derbyshire
Halloween 2019 is almost upon us, so I've rounded up a few of my favourite Halloween events to give you some ideas for spooky days and nights out in and around Derbyshire.
CHATSWORTH'S HALLOWEEN HOOT
24th October - 1st November 2019
Chatsworth has ghoulish fun lurking around every corner this Halloween for those who dare to visit at October half term. Halloween happenings are in evidence all over the house, garden and farmyard from broomstick making and spooky storytelling in the garden to creepy crafts and scary spiders in the farmyard and Fright Flights into Warlock Wood, home of the spooky Spell Weaver and her ghoulish friends.
BLUEBELLS DAIRY - PROFESSOR SALAMANDER AND HIS TRAVELLING BEASTS PANTO
19/20 October & 26-31 October 2019
A wide range of activities are being organised at Bluebells Dairy in Spondon this year. Children will be able to visit the farm's pumpkin patch to pick their own pumpkins before heading to the barn to carve out their jack o'lanterns. Pumpkins are free with each full-paying child ticket.
The highlight is expected to be this year's 'Phantomime' show - Professor Salamander and his Travelling Beasts.
Continuing the theme, the Mythical Beasts Farm Trail will see families set out across the farm and through the spooky maize field in search of the Mythical Beasts' nests and lairs. Once they've found them all, families can claim their pumpkin prize.

SPOOKY BOLSOVER CASTLE
26th October - 3rd November 2019
Grab your broomsticks for a bewitchingly brilliant day out at Bolsover Castle this Halloween half term. Get hands-on with creepy crafts and a wicked witch-themed quest. There’s a fancy dress competition every day - come in your best witch and wizard outfits to be in with a chance of winning.
Thrilling tricks and tasty treats await at creepy Bolsover Castle this half term! Join the potion master and weave your magic as you make your very own potion to take home - just remember....don't eat the bottle! Discover some amazing - and simple - tricks with elastic bands that will amaze and astound your friends and family. ALTON TOWERS SCAREFEST
18 October - 3 November
The theme park stays open until 9pm so visitors can experience thrilling rides in the dark, and there's also the chance to explore scary mazes, see the Scarefest Freak Show and meet and greet spooky characters.
CROMFORD MILLS FAMILY FUN WEEKEND - HALLOWEEN, GHOSTS & GHOULS
Join us for a weekend of all things spooky. From witches and wizards to ghosts and ghouls, dust off your broomstick and join in the fun!
Fancy Dress Competition - Come dressed as a spooky character and win a prize.
Childrens Activities - Make something spooky for Halloween, Drop in anytime. Charges apply.
Halloween Trail - Follow the spooky trail around the mill.
Owls and Parrots - Woodies Wings will be here again! Meet a selection of gorgeous owls and colourful, entertaining parrots.

PICK YOUR OWN PUMPKINS
October 19 and 20, and Thursday, October 24 - Thursday, October 31
Come and pick your own perfect pumpkin this Halloween at Mr Pumpkin. With 30,000 pumpkins to choose from and more than 20 different varieties.
Family fun with the Witches Kitchen offering locally produced hot and cold food and drinks, fairground rides, bale mountain, bouncy castle, face painting and more.
Visitors are advised to bring their wellies and suitable outdoor clothing as it may be muddy in the pumpkin patch.

WHITBY ABBEY - ILLUMINATED ABBEY
25th October - 2nd November 2019
Suitable for all the family - 6-9pm
This Halloween, discover the darker side of history among the bright lights of Whitby Abbey.
Explore the soaring gothic ruins as they’re illuminated in a breathtaking display of colour and light. Afterwards, hear tales from Count Dracula and come face to face with a coven of witches roaming about the ruins. Meet a sinister witch-finder to learn about the devious tricks of his trade, and keep out the cold with some delicious hot food and drink.
